The Masita Ska Show with Beefy, September 3rd 2019 Nik Snieder Tribute

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

This week's Ska Show with Beefy is a sombre affair after the news that Beefy's great friend Nik Snieder tragically passed away on Friday after a short illness. Nik and Beefy were responsible for The Sick Kids Skank gigs in Brisbane many moons ago. The best way Beefy could pay tribute to Nik was by playing the music he loved and by celebrating with the bands that played on those tremendous nights. Beefy spins live tracks from Strange Tenants, The Porkers, Area 7 and dredges the archives with Wiseacre, Blowhard, The Kingtides, Brisbane City All Skas, Furious Turtles, The Kingpins. Beefy throws in some of Nik's favourite tunes from Madness, The Beat, Bad Manners and The Specials. Our hearts go out to his wife Clare and their family. The great man was taken far too soon! Rest in Noise big man.

Scott to find who I am as a person and I will never turn my back on Scott. Looking back, I have no regrets. You should never leave the place. God. We don't play God anymore. Prince Bosco, give us all, name of US hit. Our first album titled. What did he ever do for us? Because he's so the heat got your feet, because then yourself this May I never get. So what's to say? See poison girl and you want know what? I might be afraid, be very afraid in the blue corner. Six seven hundred and forty four Pios. This is a night who we wunder. I thank thank you very much. He can SAS listen to the scar show with beef on every it is FM. Thank you. This is the heavy Hoy mugs, the songs, the nuts list songs, a road who stop the play is make you to your...

...health on the yeah, good evening, Scott Show. Would beefy fans.

Different start to the show because had some very, very sad news on the weekend. Guy I've known for a long, long time called Nick snight. Up in Brisbane. We used to put on a series of gigs called the sick kids skank where we put on a load of scar bands and we basically raise money for the kids hospital up there, the murder children's, and the gigs were very, very successful. We had absolute ball putting them on and unfortunately nick, after fairly short illness, passed away on Friday. Quite young, but unfortunately nick. Yeah, I've got sick and didn't quite pull through, unfortunately. So it's a quite a sad day for our little scar community. Nick was quite active in, amongst music and a whole lot of other things, the vesper clubs and things like that, and Love Life, love music and yeah, absolutely gutting, gutting news for me on unique from or Jeez, twenty years close to and yeah, there was a guy that I bonded very, very closely with and we absolutely had a ball and we loved love doing stuff to raise money for sick kids and when fan out the news on the weekend it's yeah, just remind you of your own mortality. So, yeah, I kicked the show off tonight basically with madness the prints, which was next, basically all time favorite song. I believe he absolutely love the prince. So all live versions. Strange tenants headlined the last one of our gigs. We actually got the band back together who'd been on a break for a long time, and Nick Convinced Bruce to get the guys back together to play for us, and what a show that was. It was absolutely incredible to see strange tenants after a bit of time off play for they played all night. In fact we had to kick them off stage they're having so much funny. Was Brilliant. The porker's alcohol. The porker's headline one of our gigs and that's fair to say, it didn't draw too much of a crowd. There were so many gigs on the same night. There were guy gigs on her punk giggs on tough night, but pete and the boys push through and you know, we got a couple hundred in. It was a great night. The POK is a fantastic and then are is seven. Probably what an awesome night area is seven put on for us. Nothing was too much trouble. The boys came in. Steve Oh and Steve were remembers fondly that night and realized that we were doing it to raise money. Was a charity thing and nothing again was too much trouble for anyone, and Nick went a long way to put in that those shows on and making the bands feel happy and comfortable and realize nobody was making money out of it. It was all going to a good course. So, Nick, if you're listening, buddy, resting noise, you absolutely deserve it. But mate, can't believe the news. And, like I said, it was one of those times...

...where we wouldn't talk for months and months and then you pick up the phone and we'd pick up as though we talked the day before. So absolute sad day and I wish, I wish, that things could be different, and under different circumstances they probably would, but there go. So probably in this first hour I'm going to play a lot of the bands that actually played on those gigs and I'm gonna have to wreck the memory because we were famed for having full bills. We really were. I'm going to shout out to Paul Pablow Edwards. This is one of his bands are played quite regularly for us. They were called King Tide, they were called the king tides, they were called all sorts of things, but this was one of their best songs. It's called by flies and again, absolutely massive message tribute to a good friend of myne Nick nighter, that passed away on Friday. Couldn't have done it without your buddy anyway. King, tied by flies, the pride, I gotta go down the busy folks. I go sit in there just with the floats swill. Some bill will share a toe. I'm hanging there just with my friends who want these days to never the bubble says it's time, and then it's only go, but we'll be back again. Let's go, let's go. Let's go to these, let's go. Let's go to the pub. Next Day's work is out, and then the boss you wants to talk again and over. Time might be the go. We don't care. We'll get my we can't go down to the Bob and never bed for the Bunnus Club. I've always got money all on the boat. Or just sit around telling dirty joes. I want these days. You never laugh. We like to go and you always know you can find us a pop. Let's go to the Bob. Let's go to the let's go to the Bob, let's go to the mouth. I want these days. You never laughs, to go and you will always know you can find us. Let's go to the park, let's go through the power let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go. Let's go to Messita. They've been making quality apparel since one thousand nine hundred and thirty three. A great range of sports gear for all ball sports and all corporate way. Doesn't matter what sport you play, Messita have the kit for you. MESSEDAR offers a full catalog of on field and off field apparel. It's the best quality money can buy. Get in touch one three hundred messita on MES cedarcom. That AU the harder,...

...but you don't understand. You keep up paying money out of you say you are, but sometimes I get everyone is the one long and then you say, and then you stick it all. You think of the people might agree, but there is always someone who is always something to stop picking up yourself down and has some fun for a time. waify. Everybody has a hard it comes at the life situation. You're not long, and then you shall he and then you stick it all. Can't catch and then you say, and then you stick it all. Yeah, furious turtles who played on the strange tenants Gig, which was pretty astonishing, then played for a long time together as well, and Nick managed to get those guys back together. The play with the strange tenants and what a night that was. Feist tools were brilliant. They were fantastic. Considering they then played together. I'll probably I believe it was like ten years, fifteen years more possibly, and yet they even did a couple of rehearsals, got back together and banks straight at it. It was great to see. I am reliving the sick kids skank that myself and Nick Snider used to put on, celebrating all things scar up in Brisbane and raising money for the martyr children's Hospital, especially for music therapy. We actually put money directly into music therapy programs, especially for the kids suffering from cancer and Lukeymire and stuff like that in the dematology oncology areas. Just crazy stuff and myself and nick yeah, did it. We just had so much fun doing it and unfortunately nick got ill himself over the past month and unfortunate didn't pull through and passed away on Friday morning. So I'm honoring Nick Straight Away. With a lot of bands that played on the sick kids skank bills and these guys also came together and they actually approached us to see if they could play. I think they may have opened on the area. Seven Gig they were called the Brisbane city all scars. And this is will I ever let learn, I wonder. Let's go, let's go, let's go...

...serious, the serious, a serious. Who is first? A twist?...

I'm sexual, I'm a buck lost, I'm a sexual dv me. One can trust sexual duds. I can set you free. Sexual D yeah, blow had sexual, deviant, brilliant. Blow had headline the first sick kids skank the gabba hotel, and unfortunately Rollo obviously passed away this year as well, just before going on stage with the headlining a Gig with the resonators and lost country monkeys up in Brisbane. And unbelievably, that happened, you know, right before going on stage. So we're very much ashame that that happened, and obviously we also paying tribute to Nick Snyder, who we put on sick kids Gank, who blow had headlined the very first one. It's sad, sad to know that the the scar scene is absolutely booming all over the world and yet will losing good people, aren't we? Ranking Roger, Rollo, Nick Snyder, unbelievaable really and, like I said, it's life is...

...too short. Sometimes it really is. Well, hope you're enjoying a lot of these tunes and pain tribute to Nick and all the others that have gone before him, because this is the only way I know how, is playing good music, having a bit of fun and just reflecting, remembering and pain tribute to those good people in the world. They really nick was a massive, big bad manners fan and he was a skinhead at heart, true skinhead. So this is skinhead love affair. Bad manners phrases were too said. I like you too, like your froat down lasts, so stout show. She said. You don't white stand by even when they say join. It was asking it. Take a look outside, I see, oh my God, he's a big me. Don't let him inside me. Yeah, you come outside, you get a big must. Don't let him inside me. But friendly chat, bide, always take the girl back. Don't come during...

...the boy killer. Yeah, the kingpins at a Montreal in Canada. They they were meant to play on the sick kids, Gank Gigs and we organized it. We even tied up some flights, I think, but they had some issues getting some visas and had to pull out and at the well, not even at last one ydiculous notice, but unfortunately it was a big drawcout for us. They would have been the first international act that we would have had on sick kids cank, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Before that skin had love affair by bad manners. This is the scar show we'd be for. It's a bit of a sommer show at the minute, but I'm playing the tunes. I'm getting through. The scat scene is a family and the best way that we have of dealing with grief, tragedy and heartbreak is playing good old fashion upbeat music, music that actually makes you happy. Yes, what should we do? We should do you know what you do. We should do the beat tears of a clown. Well, it's one of my favorites. Pretty sure is one of Nicks as well. Anyway, here we go the after the break we will do we'll get back to normal little bit. Will play the covers the world famous scar show would be if you cover section and it be a lot of new releases been some new songs dropped. Are just banging on through. We'll have some fun. For the last hour we're probably who knows what I'll bring up. I haven't really a chance to really plan too much of a show, as you can imagine. Anyway, let's hear the beat and then we'll get into the cover section. After the break. Tears of a clown. Be Carefree, convince. Yeah,...

...the beat tears were clown. I've devoted this whole hour to remembering nixt night up. My heart goes out to Claire, his wife. They had a bit of a tribe of kids as well. With put of a Brady Bunch of those two got together. But all the best, and I feel for you. Are Really really do. I'M gonna finish the first hour. Nick passed away on Friday. So one of his favorite bands, obviously, was the specials. Why don't we play Friday night Saturday morning, because all the best, fellow and no doubt I will see you in the very near future. Time I drink of the Shi.
