Good afternoon and welcome tothe Scott Show with me beefy's not a great week in all fairness, becausewe have to pay a tribute to the passing of the scar and to tonelegend ranking Roger, lead man, the toll star of the beat, andwe kicked off the show with a nice, juicy live set featuring some of thebest of ranking Roger's work. We had save it for later. Rankingfallst up and then mirror in the bathroom. Absolute pleasure. We saw me lastyear when they did a joint headline. taught with the selector and as awesomeas usual. and He puts in well, used to put in hundredpercent on the stage. Left it all...

...out there. So we're to paytribute to ranking Roger this week. It's just an absolute shock to the sister. After say genuine he genuinely go when I heard that news on, youknow, Tuesday, Wednesday. Yep, still kind of yeah, fifty six, fifty six. I'm not that far away from there as well. Iknow a lot of a lot of our listeners are probably around that vintage aswell. So we're absolute shame. So we're going to be playing a lotof the beat. We probably fit in some general public anything I can find. I've got an interview. Actually, that didn't December. I think itwas news eve he did it. So not that far away and not thatfar after. You know, he was out here last year as well.So yeah, it's not, not great, but let's trying to celebrate the life, because scar is an upbeat kind of happy go lucky music and wecelebrate the good stuff, not the bad, whereas it's politically charged sometimes, buttry and make sure the world is right through the genre that we alllove. Anyway, I got a couple of surprises as well. I'm goingto play Sydney band in a second and then we're going to try and getone of the members on the phone because they've got a gig coming up inMelbourne, not too far away. They're part of scar nation, so let'sjump straight into it. These are the online does. This was a worldwidehit. It is. Montego Bay, thanks for joining us the sky showwith me, beefy, thanks to Messita. The best sports where in Australia willbe in the driving you're letting me like a brother. I think Iremember it's good like how so I lay still. Yes, Montego Bay,absolute belter, and I'm going to tell...

...you a story. But one thousandnine nine one, I reckon there was a tape going round. It wasadvertised on TV. was called this is scar and I bought that tape.I think it was about for quid, and that lived in my car fora whole long time. On that tape was the all nighter as Montego Bayand it is an absolute pleasure. I know they're coming down to Melbourne FridayApril Nineteen Corner Hotel scart nation, you'll nighters. Does say here that istheir last ever Melbourne Gig, but I'm convinced that if it goes well andthe resurgence of scar around the world, I'm pretty sure we're going to squeezea few more years out the old nightgers, as best we can anyway. Andon the phone to preview everything and talk us through life in the allnighters and everything else is Brett patents and Brett thanks to join us on theshow. So having me here, you go. No, what fair tellI'm listening to scar and I'm playing whatever I want to hear. So it'salways a good Thursday afternoon when there, when you're on the scar show.would be fee but Brett, I just like I said, I'll see anote here, that last ever Melbourne show for the all nighters. Well, what's going on there? Well, I think, I think we're a bitlike John Fun and really I'm coming back like a bad staying on a Saberslop, you know, in this cap, and just can't get rid of us. Yeah. Well, I like that theory, that it's the neverending farewell tour. We just keep running, you know, rolling out farewell tours. I love that angle. It's brilliant. You know, it couldlikely. They are like lots six of em. Chravisey, I was seeingin the all night and a fair bit older than the rest of us.When we met Travis in one thousand nine hundred and seventy nine, or itslike seventy nine, early eighty, he was already twelve years ahead of us. So if you figure out I'm around about Thea he's twelve is older. This year is a big birthdays. Yes, it's not only long Sol anymore, but he swears that can't do it anymore. But he said that lasttime we're at and that in two thousand and six green. So you neverknow. You never know indeed, and I mean the great thing about is, like I said, I told that story that you know, I kindof grown up in the UK and I've got this tape with you all nighterson, which is quite amazing and it's great to know that you guys, you know, even though you don't play as regular as you used to,you still kind of been you're able to get together and still bang out thetunes. Yeah, you know, next year two thousand and twenty will bea forty of anniversary. Well, pretty big, mobster, and really Imean. But when we started, I don't think we saw with last partSeptember. When we started in early September, I think we thought we'd come intotwo or three shows that of that. It wasn't to be. It wasto be a career that stretched for fortys, which is pretty amazing. It is pretty amazing when you when you think about it, and hey,did life change after Montego Bay? Obviously, because that went round the world andpeople started taking notice of you. Yeah, it really change things, some for the good and some for not so good. You know, priorto Montego Bay, I guess for the frontline of the band, we'd hada bit of success with some of our other tracks. Hold on and afew other things, and so we're sort of getting recognized that. You know, when Montego Bay came out it it was number two here in Australia. We only got picked at the post pot boy sorde and color by numbers, how and so it did change us, change the you know, where wewent, everywhere we went, people knew who we were. And it alsohad its downside it. You know, everybody sort of starts to get toan age problem in band and that that ultimately, I guess, cause youknow, problems with in the band. Yeah, which was which is sadreally, but on reflection now I think if we had the old head onyounger shoulders, probably be a different scenario. Yeah, well, well, wecan all look back in Hindson,...

...you know, the old sliding doorsmoments and all that. Yeah, but it's going to be fantastic to getyou guys down in Melbourne. What a lineup it's going to be. Imean obviously your cells area seven, the resignator is lost, come from monkeyscoming from Mexico and a reformation of Mr Coffee and Melbourne kind of staple dietof the mid two thousand. So it's just an unbelievable momentum, I guess, with scumis across the world and a minute and everyone kind of sees, you know, it's coming to the fall and his new bands popping up outof everywhere. But I mean I do hear the worst thing about obviously he'scoordinating seven or eight piece bands and a horn section and everything else. Thatkind of keeps everything interesting, but it also makes it a bit more difficultto keep bands together. Like you say. Well, you know, for usthis time there's it's going to be four then of us on stage. It's it's a huge logistical jargon or, you know, trying to coordinate fryingcord and people down to Melbourne and everybody at the same time and the doingthe accommodation, you know, not to mention the cost. It makes adifficult thing to undertake. I mean, you know, it's like I assumethat Melbourne scale orchestra has a very similar problem. Yeah, they're you know, they're they're massive. Yeah, they're like two football teams. So so, yeah, I think that that does have a bearing on what happens withbands. I mean, the more people you have in a band for morechance you've better having ripped and disagreement and and so think a lot of scarbands come and go. But yeah, I think there's some great news stuffand there. I mean I think as the skins, when I think ofnew era, I just think that tremendous, a tremendous example of the next waveof what's going reggae is. Yeah, this is fantastic. I mean myson is sixteen, ALDS COMING DOWN BY TRUMPET WITH US This time. It's his first book. You did to give this big fish last year, but he's the new breath scar and reggae. Really yeah, it's great. Asick. Well, we've got the same situation with strange tenants day arethese to two sons in the band now with with the tenants. So it'syeah, I like to hear what you say. It's we're passing on that, that legacy, but also the fact that there is a bit of momentum. There is a bit of people take a notice a scar bands again andI think that's it can only be a good thing to keep the interest going. Yeah, yeah, it's it's and that's great. It's really great.I'm really please that there's the next generation of scar and hopefully, you know, all it takes is is one of those bands to have a hit,you know, into nationally, and whole certain kicks off again. Now examand I don't think we're far off. I don't think we're far away fromsomething like that happening. It comes in waves, to be honest. Ithink that all of ourselves part and, like the all nights in the tenant, should give it a bloody grace and let the young people go. Butpeople, people wanting to see this, which is we're really fortunate and gratefulthat people still want to come out and this and even the old times thatof ouries. They're at the start every Gig we do. There's a wholebunch of them in the audience, though. Why that? The Harrington's are alittle bit more stretched and it's just done to up. But it's now. But I know he's saying. I think what you refer to the newband's coming through. I think the Benny's are probably the closest to getting onthat international stage and breaking Australia, and I mean I love the way theythey've market themselves as a bit of a party band and scar as always beinga bit of a party sound. So the way they go about it.I think that's the like you say, that's kind of the the new angleand where we're going to when we're going to get more and more kids intoit. Yeah, I agree with it's totally. It's a people like theinterrupters in the states. I mean that they've just had a number one inthe states, which is kind of unheard of for the past well, sincethe bosstones, I guess, in when was that? Ninety sent so it'sbeen a long time between drinks. It's is that to night? Yeah, exactly. I think that that that can only pay the way for new band. You know, it's just what we want to see. Yeah, no, exactly, how and then we can retire. There we go now.Obviously we we had some awful, awful news from the scar community this week. Ranking Rodger obs he passed away.

Now we are celebrating the life andtimes of ranking Roger and the beat. Now you guys must have played withthe beat at some stage, either here in Australia or overseas. What waswhat was lifelike supporting the beat? Yeah, look, we did a couple ofshows with them over the years. Look at real we got to playwith international acts, whether it was here or overseas. True us it wasa dream come true. You know it, whether it was the beat or thespecials or madness or you before me, or any of those bands. Forus, so far away from the UK s, it was like adream country come true, you know. And the beat were one of myfavorites. You know, it's been very sad week really. I even sayingit now. I can feel myself getting a bit emotional about that Bi Cel. We get, I guess, the more often we see this happened, which is I guess it's life, but at the same time it doesn't doesn'tget easier to take nice right. And you know, you just mentioned thatyou were on the upper side of fifty and obviously ranking Roger One only fiftysix. Yeah's cut these under than me. Yeah, I was actually surprised.Must have done it hard. Everything looked old and they but yeah,he was. It was a great white gentleman, lovely, really friendly oryeah, happy. Tragic that he's the fat guy from the Star Roll, but I guess the one thing that happens he's on a better journey. Andnow that we also get a reflect back on what a great band they wereand what great tunes I had. And you know the date. In theearly days, ring the bars room handle. You know, where do you start? Where do you start? One of the best compilations. You know, you put the best of the beat together and you know there's probably fifteentwenty tracks there. That just awesome. And I mentioned the this is scartape I had. I also had, you know, a big compilation whichis just awesome and that that lived in the car for a long, longtime too. Yeah, I think you'd we had pushed in what always ambeing, I guess in the UK and a little bit different, but thebeating never reached the full potential worldwide. You know, as we know, madness deal in the special scheme that you know knows early days. I thinkthey were equally you know, get shut down in plans for this that it'snot better than madness and a special not that they's a better or best.I can imagine in one thousand nine hundred and eighty being at a big concertin the UK. I would have been just pop the chart. Agree withyou there. Now we've lost a great man, unfortunately and hopefully. Wetalked about having sons in the band and ranking Rogers brought in his son intocarrying on that legacy as well. So it is. You know, it'sdefinitely a ready tree, isn't it? Yeah, it is. And youknow, a couple of weeks ago now facebook page I posted this two songsfrom the the new hour or the other part of the boot, and Ithink it's a cracking album. The day wakeling version is new album. Yeah, yeah, it is. It's back. I mean that's sound. Is Backto early s like that. That what happened. Very similar to that. Now agree, we're totally they're still doing it just like us. Getexactly right. Well, Brett, it's going to be an absolute pleasure tosee you down here Good Friday Corner Hotel. I was going to say I hopeyou come and had a few a rals with US backstage or deferent andI hope we see loads of old faces and new faces there. We're goingto do our best to flow the roof offul joint. Excellent. Well, there is nothing else to do in Melbourne on Good Friday. I have thaton good authority. So I need everyone to get to the Sky Nation atthe Corner Hotel. We got area seven, we got the all nighters. Thereason is lost Kung Fu, monkeys and Mr Coffee. is going tobe an absolutely great night. Brett. I look forward to seeing you guysand the other thirteen members of the band down in Melbourne. It's going tobe an absolute belter. I can't wait for it. But thanks for takinga bit of time out your day and we're seeing a couple of weeks.Times for the pleasure and thanks for having us. No worries at all. We're going to go out with a bit of a bird general public, andthis is tenderness and just it's stay tuned because the beat stuff is going tokeep flowing through the afternoon. I'm just going to pay a decent tribute toranking Roger and everyone has been affected by...

...his music across the years. Aside side and he's gone. He's a...

...rank up a window dress. Butyou, boozy, trying to start a fresh strong. Oh you guess what? That's area seven doing, himbo. That's a request actually for one ofour biggest fans, rob in a Brisbane. So hello to ruby and MINX andLittle Arch for us, rob. That would be great. Are isseven? Guess what? They're headlining scar nation. Good Friday we just taughta breat from the all night as they're playing as well. Or fourteen ofthem are is seven, I believe, maybe even an area eight on thatnight. By all accounts the resignators, they've probably got eight in the band. Mr Coffee could have wore six, seven possibly. Not sure how manyof the monkeys are lost. CONTU monkey's not the monkeys. Obviously where they'recoming out as well, if you're interested in the monkeys. I'm not surehow many of the Mexicans are coming. So tell you what, there's goingto be more band members than people in the crowd because of the six hundredand eighty six performers. It's like a going to be a scary STEADFORD.Oh Hey, goods that I'm gonna Christen that the scar I steadford at theCorner Hotel. There's going to be awesome. It's gonna be a great night. Please, please, please, get your tickets to a search for scarnation or notice scar nation Melbourne featuring area. Glongis the other one, Sunday April twenty...

...eight. That features strange tenants whowe talked about Melbourne Scar Orchestra as well. There's two stages at that Geelong Gigand it's a going to be an absolute bumper crop down there. Can'twait for the second installing a scar nation. I've talked to Francis and connor quiteregularly recently. We want to make this a kind of a staple dietin the scar world every year. Whether it's Good Friday, I don't seewhy it shouldn't be. There's nothing else. I mean Good Friday that's worth while. Don't worry about Ozzi rules or rugby league or wherever you are. This is where you need to be. So get your tickets for scar nation. is going to be an absolute belter and the more tickets we sell thisyear, the more committed we will to be. Making two thous and twothousand and twenty even better. Be Awesome. Can't wait. It really will bea good gig and, like I said, we had some other bad, bad news come through as well. The the original porker's drummer, passedaway this week after a bit of illness, so that's not good. We'll probablyplay a bit of porkers are well, just to make pete feel happy because, yeah, it's a tough time. And obviously ranking Roger, which isan absolute shock to everyone around the world. My social media feeds thelast couple of days. You know, you forget how loved these people areand it was absolutely awesome. It's made, you know, decent newspaper News andTV news in the UK, as it should, but everywhere love hasbeen pouring out for rank and Roger. He was only he October last year. It's just phenomenal to think that, you know, it's gone pear shapedvery, very quickly. Unfortunate. I've got an interview I'm going to playin the second hour of the show which which, like I said, Ithink it was done news eve last year. So that it's just incredible to think. Anyway, let's play a bit more of the beat. This isbest friend. Listen to you. In my heart I wanted you, wantedeverybody store. I wanted let's let yourself again.
